One of the oldest veterinary hospitals in the DeLand area, DeLand Animal Hospital was founded in 1956 as a mixed animal, general veterinary practice. DeLand Animal Hospital is now owned and operated by Dr. Deborah Ulbrich and Dr. Thomas MacPhail, a husband and wife team. The family run animal hospital has grown into a modern, advanced veterinary facility providing quality care to all of Volusia County. DeLand Animal Hospital is proud to have been voted winners of The Daytona Beach News Journal’s Best of the West. In 2012, DAH responded to the community’s needs and expanded into a 24 hour, full service veterinary hospital. Dr. Ulbrich and Dr. MacPhail work closely with their DeLand Veterinarian staff to continue providing quality care with compassion to your pets.
Our Doctors and Staff
DeLand Animal Hospital has developed a team of experienced veterinarians and support staff in both of our offices. Our focus is to provide our clients and patients with friendly, compassionate and quality veterinary medicine.
Our veterinarians are ready to handle all routine treatments and surgeries as well as advanced procedures/ surgeries and emergencies. Case rounds are conducted every morning and evening allowing each patient to benefit from the wide range of experience of all our doctors.
Our highly trained staff in both of our offices include a Hospital Director, licensed veterinary technicians, receptionists, and support staff to maintain efficient quality patient/client care. Our staff has many years of experience in the veterinary field and their dedication to the profession is reflected in the compassionate care they give to each and every patient and pet owner.
We continually find ways to keep current in the veterinary field. Therefore, continuing education is importance to us. Our veterinarians and staff regularly attend conferences in order to continue the education process.
Dr. Deborah C. Ulbrich, DVM
Received her undergraduate degree at Stetson University in 1993. She graduated with honors from Ross University and completed her clinical rotations at University of Missouri. After graduation, she practiced in the Hudson Valley area in New York where she focused on internal medicine and oncology. In January of 2004, Dr Ulbrich and her husband Dr MacPhail purchased the DeLand Animal Hospital. Responding to the needs of the area, they transformed DeLand Animal Hospital into a full service 24 hour veterinary hospital.
Dr Ulbrich is actively involved in her community. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Florida Veterinary Medical Association and has been the President and active BOD member of the Volusia-Flagler Veterinary Medical Association for 9 years.
Her primary interests include internal medicine and oncology. She frequently attends national/international conferences keeping current with the most advanced veterinary medicine. In addition, she is certified to perform veterinary Stem Cell Therapy.
Together, Dr Ulbrich and Dr MacPhail share a household with their children, Dogs, Cats, Umbrella Cockatoo, Guinea Pigs, Horses, Mini-Pig, Chickens, Ducks and Fish. She enjoys spending time with her family and occasionally tries to find time to go boating, scuba-diving, skiing, and horseback riding. She speaks fluent German and has traveled throughout the world.
Dr. Thomas W. MacPhail, DVM
Received his Bachelors of Science degree from Virginia Tech in 1998. He obtained his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University and gained invaluable practical experience during his clinical rotation at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. MacPhail has a particular interest in soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery. He continually attends special orthopedic seminars and performs various types of special bone surgeries. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Florida Veterinary Medical Association. He enjoys spending time with family. They keep their household interesting with their 4 dogs, 3 cats, a bird and 4 horses. Dr. MacPhail’s other interests include boating, scuba diving, soccer, football and playing ball with his dogs.
Dr. Sandra Murton, DVM, DACT
Received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1993. Since then she has worked in mixed animal practice for 6 years in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa before completing a Residency program in Reproduction at Louisiana State University. She became Board Certified in Reproduction in 2002, and also has an interest in animal acupuncture. Dr. Murton moved to DeLand in 2003 and worked in an Equine Practice for 7 years before returning to small animal medicine in 2010. Dr. Murton joined the team at Deland Animal Hospital in June 2011. Dr. Murton and her husband enjoy travelling around the world. She has 2 dachshunds and 3 horses.
Dr. Frank Beazlie, BVMS
Received his Bachelor degree in Animal and Poultry Science from Virginia Tech and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He has a particular interest in exotic animals including reptiles, birds, fish, marine and small mammals, and amphibians. Prior to coming to Deland Animal Hospital Dr Beazlie was a consultant for the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center where he worked on Sea Turtles, Sharks, Seals, Crocodiles, Komodo Dragons and many other exotic species. In his spare time he enjoys fishing and traveling, and he has a passion for restoring classic cars.
Dr. Stacy Whetstone, DVM
Is a graduate from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Zoology and a graduate from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine with a DVM. She has practiced in South Carolina for the last 12 years and moved to Florida to join Deland Animal Hospital in May 2015. She has 2 cats (Luna and Tallulah), 2 dogs Shep (an Australian Shepard) and Hazel Mae Pearl (a miniature Schnauzer), and 1 husband (Tommy). She is a fanatical Buckeye Football Fan and will be occupied every Saturday afternoon during the fall football season. She also enjoys all things with the ocean and beach, and loves to visit the Bahamas every year to snorkel with the sharks.
Dr. Ashley Still, DVM
Received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Central Florida and received her Doctors of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in St. Kitts, West Indies in 2012. She spent her clinical rotation at Louisiana State University and gained practical experience with both large and small animals. Dr. Still is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Florida Veterinary Medical Association. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends and pets; horse (Ransom), dog (Baylor), 2 cats (Sake and Voodoo), and 2 ball pythons (Bacardi and Sambuca). In her spare time her interests include hiking, diving, rock climbing, and horseback riding.
Dr. DeAnna Fox, DVM
Grew up on a farm in Northeastern Tennessee. She later moved to Minnesota, where she attended college. Dr. Fox’s undergraduate work at the University of Minnesota was in wildlife biology. However, she was granted early acceptance into the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine (a distinguished honor that allowed her to begin her studies in veterinary medicine without first completing a Bachelor’s degree). In 2006, Dr. Fox was granted a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Veterinary Science, followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2009. Dr. Fox moved to Florida in 2009. When not working, she enjoys Florida’s abundant outdoor activities and developing her small hobby farm with her husband.
